Field Expertise that Serves the Mission

We understand the mission-driven nature of this work and the unique demands it places on organizations working to restore habitat, protect water quality, and recover endangered species with limited resources and high accountability. Riparia is equipped to partner with NGOs as a capable, committed field contractor with thoughtful, technically sound, and professionally executed restoration and environmental work.

Challenges NGOs Face

NGOs and nonprofits working in habitat restoration and conservation face a distinct set of challenges such as balancing scientific rigor, grant compliance, stakeholder coordination, and on-the-ground execution with teams that are often stretched thin. Finding a contractor who understands the ecological goals, not just the construction scope, makes a meaningful difference.

  • Local Fish Enhancement Groups

When working to improve habitat and water quality for endangered salmonids in local rivers and streams, you need a contractor with field capabilities who understand stream ecology, fish habitat function, and the landscape-scale restoration techniques that make recovery possible.

  • Watershed Councils

When engaging communities in habitat enhancement—from large-scale restoration planting and maintenance to backyard habitat and canopy cover work—you need a contractor who can work at multiple scales, coordinate with diverse stakeholders, and deliver results that reflect well on the council’s mission and community relationships.

  • National Conservation Organizations and Nonprofits

We engage with organizations such as American Rivers, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, and The Nature Conservancy who are managing boots-on-the-ground restoration projects and need a contractor with the field capacity and technical expertise to execute complex scopes involving instream restoration, wetland work, fencing removal, dam removal, and large-scale native planting.

Services for NGOs

Riparia provides the full range of restoration and habitat services that NGOs and conservation organizations need, from concept through long-term monitoring and executed by a team that genuinely cares about the outcomes.

  • Full-Service Restoration

Riparia manages restoration projects across the full lifecycle—design, permitting, construction, maintenance, and monitoring—giving NGO partners a single, capable contractor who can take a project from initial vision to regulatory closeout.

  • Site Preparation & Large-Scale Planting

Our crews are experienced in large-scale native plant installation with expertise in plant techniques, species placement, and site-specific conditions that give restoration plantings the best possible chance of establishment and long-term success.

  • Irrigation Installation & Management

Riparia installs irrigation systems and manages temporary irrigation for plant establishment on restoration sites, along with ongoing plant maintenance.

  • Instream Restoration & Habitat Structures

We install large woody debris, Beaver Dam Analogs, Post Assisted Log Structures, and other instream habitat features that restore stream complexity, slow water, and improve conditions for salmon and other aquatic species.

  • Fish Passage & Road Crossing Restoration

Riparia installs fish passage culverts and road crossings with accompanying streamside restoration. We remove barriers to fish migration and restore the riparian conditions that support healthy aquatic systems.

  • Site Stabilization & Hydroseeding

We stabilize disturbed soils and restore ground cover through hydromulching and hydroseeding to protect restoration sites from erosion during the establishment period, supporting rapid revegetation of large disturbed areas.

  • Noxious & Invasive Weed Management

Riparia provides licensed noxious and invasive weed treatment and removal to support restoration efforts, including work in and near riparian areas where aquatic herbicide endorsements and careful application practices are required.

We Share Your Values

The people at Riparia are anglers, hikers, birders, and conservationists who care deeply about the health of Pacific Northwest waterways, wetlands, and native landscapes. Working with NGOs is some of the most meaningful work we do, and our staff brings genuine investment to it.

Habitat Restoration Is Core to What We Do

Restoring ecosystems after decades of degradation is difficult, slow, and critically important work. Riparia has built our practice around doing it well and with the scientific grounding, field experience, and adaptive management capability that successful restoration requires.

Clean Water Is a Shared Responsibility

Fresh water is one of the most limited and most essential resources on the planet. Riparia’s work is directly connected to protecting and recovering the water quality that communities, wildlife, and future generations depend on.

Canopy Cover & Reforestation Matters

Restoring tree canopy through strategic reforestation is one of the fastest ways to improve habitat quality and water temperature in Pacific Northwest systems. Riparia’s planting crews understand species selection, placement, and establishment practices that give restoration trees the best chance of becoming the forest the watershed needs.

Stopping the Spread of Invasive Species

Invasive species are one of the most persistent threats to the ecological outcomes NGOs are working toward. Riparia’s licensed invasive species crews treat infestations at the source and stop the spread before it undermines the restoration investments.

Abrams Park & Gee Creek Natural Area

Riparia partnered with the Watershed Alliance of Southwest Washington to tackle invasive species and noxious weeds over taking a native landscape adjacent to Abrams Park. Working with a non-profit, our budget was always a concern – we worked thoughtfully and diligently to craft a budget-friendly plan to maintain the site, improve the landscape, and help restore the community park. We were able to work with the Watershed Alliance to build a budget that allowed us to plant over 900 trees and shrubs while also knocking out invasive species.
